GENERAL INFORMATION

Blizzard Entertainment will be hosting the inaugural BlizzCon at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California, on October 28-29th, 2005! BlizzCon is a celebration of the Warcraft, StarCraft, and Diablo franchises and the players who have helped make them so popular around the world.

BlizzCon 2005 will spotlight World of Warcraft, but will also feature hands-on gameplay of StarCraft: Ghost and other Blizzard games. Some of the activities at BlizzCon will include:
  • Q&A panels with the World of Warcraft and StarCraft: Ghost developers
  • Playing World of Warcraft Battlegrounds live with friends
  • 1st public hands-on gameplay of StarCraft: Ghost
  • BlizzCon Invitational Tournament, featuring top Warcraft III and StarCraft professional gamers from around the world

  • Contests for die-hard gamers to compete in for great loot

TOURNAMENT STRUCTURE

The BlizzCon Invitational tournaments for Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne will be in a double elimination, "best of three" format. Map selections will work similar to how it works on Battle.net in the sense that each player may veto a map. The maps that will be used are listed below:

Wednesday, October 26th, 9:00 PM CST - Pre-Coverage

So here it is so far... my BlizzCon coverage article for WCReplays. I hope this will make it easier for some of you to follow the event with me this weekend. Please keep in mind that there is a whole wazoo of information on the official BlizzCon site, so be sure to check that out. I just put together what I considered to be highlight of the event - the Warcraft III Invitational Tournament.

At the moment I am at work (my real job) trying to complete my project deadline before I leave to go to Californina. I stayed up until 3 AM this morning working and now it's almost 10:00 PM my time and I'm still at the office working. To keep myself from going insane, I take little breaks here and there to work on this article instead ;)

I'm about to head home soon to start packing and preparing for this weekend's coverage. I have my WTV account all set up, so for all of you Waaagh!TV users out there I will be streaming as many games as possible on WTV. KidArctica will also be there doing coverage for SK Gaming so be sure to check that out to as I know she'll have more free time to make updates than I will. Of course I look forward to meeting all of the players, especially those I haven't met before - Grubby, FuRy, Insomnia, MaDFroG, and Zacard. There will also be a couple of WCR staff members attending who I also look forward to meeting - Slymer and Raihn.

Tomorrow morning I'll leave for the airport at 5:30 AM and should be arriving in Anaheim, CA at around 9:00 AM PST. Blizzard has organized a tour for the invitational players and announcers (me!) to visit Hollywood as well as the headquarters of Blizzard. That will take place at around 11:00 AM PST (I think) and will last about 4-5 hours. Right after the tour I have to head over to the Anaheim Convention Center to check out the setup, get familiar with the media equipment, and do sound check. Hopefully I won't make a fool of myself on camera when I'm on live :)

The reason why I'm writing about all of this now is because I'm not sure when I'll be at my hotel or if I will even have internet access tomorrow. I promise to take as many pictures as I can while I'm on the tour and when I do have free time and access to the internet, I'll upload all of my pictures.

Just as a heads up, in between the tournaments WaCKSteVeN and I will be taking turns doing live video interviews with the Starcraft and Warcraft players. I will most likely ask the standard questions for the Warcraft players, but I wanted to give you all the opportunity to submit some fan questions as well. If your question is selected, I will mention your name and question during the interview! I've started this thread in our forums for you to submit your questions. Thursday, October 27th, 9:00 PM PST - Day 1 - Set up

Hey everyone! All is SO hectic right now for me so I haven't been able to make any updates. I'm about to do a quick test run with cast so I don't have much time. To sum some things up.... you all have heard about Insomnia. I am so sadden that he can not be here and I'm hoping he'll recover quickly so that he can go own it up at the Bulgarian WCG Qualifiers this weekend. At first, Blizzard was going to give FuRy a bye in the first round, but since eTched lives close to the area we called him up last minute to take Insomnia's place.

Matt "eTched" Carrier was able to arrive in time at 2 AM this morning, so he will be playing in place of Insomonia. The tournament has also been pushed back one hour and will now start at 11AM PST instead of 10 AM. I believe PST is -8 GMT for those of you trying to figure out what time that is for you.

My last rant before I go... the stupid clock in my hotel room was an hour behind, so I'm already off to a bad start by waking up an hour late. I realized this right after I got out of the shower and the Blizzard guys were calling me trying to figure out where I was. So, I quickly threw on some clothes and with my hair all wet I ran down to the convention center. Yeah... I look and feel so rushed. I'm hoping I will be able to catch up, get myself situation, and put some make-up on so I don't look so scary ;)

Yesterday was fun, I took plenty of pictures but do not havge the time to upload then now. Looks like they're waiting for me to do the sound test. I'll be back later!

Thursday, October 27th, 11:20 PM PST - Day 1 - SK.Zacard vs mouz.Shortround

The first round of Starcraft is going on right now, I'm about to get on stage to cast the round 1 match between SK.Zacard versus mouz.Shortround. Be sure to tune in! Scores have also been updated for Grubby and Wizard, with Grubby taking the win 2-0. FuRy is currently ahead against eTched 1-0.

KidArctica is on site and will be assiting me with streaming WTV. FuRy just defeated eTched 2-0, while ToD and MaDFroG are getting set up to play against each other. There will be at most three matches going on at the same time. The staged match and two other off stage matches.

PS - By the way... if you guys hear a male voice on the shoutcast stream, that is WaCKSteVeN from Radio ITG covering the Starcraft matches. We will be taking turns doing the stage matches for both Starcraft and Warcraft, so when you hear a female voice.. that's me. ;)

Whewww.... I just finished casting on stage and it was awesome! I can't believe I'm about to lose my voice though. The set up here is amazing... regardless of the technical difficulties. I will go around and take some pictures now and maybe find something to eat. The first round matches are now over and the next round will start soon. MaDFroG and Shortround will play next off stage so we'll try to get it streamed on WTV for you. I'll also try to get some interviews done. bbl!

Thursday, October 27th, 4:20 PM PST - Day 1 - Last matches for today

I finally found something to eat - a hot dog! ;D I'm having a great time so far even though I've been running around like crazy. The final matches for today are in progress. Currently, Wizard is playing against eTched and is ahead 1-0. In about 5 minutes FuRy and Shortround are about to play in the loser bracket semi finals, then the winner of Wizard/eTched will play ToD on the stage, which I will be shoutcasting.

KidArctica and I are trying to stream and upload as many games as we can for you all. I hope you're enjoying them. Because I hardly have any time, I'll be merging all of my pictures with KidArctica so that she can upload them for me. You will be able to find them on SK Gaming.



Thursday, October 27th, 7:00 PM PST - Day 1 - Matches over for the day

Yay, the invitational tournament is over for today. It's been fun for me and I hope you all were able to enjoy the coverage so far. Now I'll be able to walk around with KidArctica to take some more pictures and maybe do some video interviews. Tomorrow I will cast again on stage. The matches left are the lower bracket finals between ToD versus Shortround and the winner bracket finals between Grubby versus Zacard.

Friday, October 28th, 9:15 AM PST - Day 2 - Set up

Good morning everyone! I'm on site now getting ready for today. I've just received all of the replays from the tournament and have uploaded the two matches which were missing: Grubby vs Wizard from round 1 and FuRy vs Shortround from round 3 of the lower brackets. I will also make a replay pack for those who just want to download all of the replays at once.

Last night after the tournament ended I was able to walk around the convention finally and take some new pictures of the place. They have all been uploaded on SK Gaming thanks to KidArctica. After watching some of the guys fight each other in a joust, we all decided to go eat dinner. There were 11 of us who went to eat at Tony Roma's - me, KidArctica, Madadh, Brett D (Blizzard guy), Neuro, ToD, FuRy, Grubby, MaDFroG, Wizard, and Shortround. We all had a great time and the night ended at about 11:30 PM.

I wasn't able to figure out to change the time on the stupid clock in my hotel room, so I had to set the alarm an hour earlier this time. I was able to wake up on time this morning and have been uploading replays and making some updates.

In about 30-45 minutes the players will arrive and the finals matches for today will start. Most likely, the first stage match will be Starcraft with Warcraft following it. The tournament is scheduled to start at 10 AM PST. There will be 3 stage matches today for Warcraft. My guess is the winner bracket finals between Grubby and Zacard, the consolation finals, and the grand finals. Once I know more information, I'll let you all know.

So far it's been too hectic for me to do any player interivews on the GGL video stream. I'm sorry if I'm not going to be able to get to that. I will do regular video interviews as soon as I find time.

Friday, October 28th, 11:15 AM PST - Day 2 - Grubby versus Zacard coming up

The lower bracket match between ToD and Shortround just ended with ToD taking it 2-0. Currently, there is a Starcraft match going on stage. After that match is over, I will be casting on stage for Grubby versus Zacard. Waaagh!TV will be streaming as well as the GGL video stream and my Gamesports cast stream. I've taken a few new pictures and will hand them off to KidArctica later today. Hope you're all having a great weekend!~



Friday, October 28th, 11:15 AM PST - Day 2 - Grubby defeats Zacard

I just finished casting Grubby versus Zacard on stage and it was sooooo amazing! Both played well and each game was close. If you weren't able to watch, be sure to download the replays. Grubby will now advance to the Grand Finals and Zacard will move to the lower bracket and face ToD. Starcraft will be on stage now so I'm going to take a break and try to find something to eat. I'm starting to lose my voice :o



Friday, October 28th, 7:15 PM PST - Day 2 - Grubby is the BlizzCon Champion!

The tournament is over and the champion of the BlizzCon invitational tournament is 4K.Grubby!! Congratulations to him and what an amazing series played by both him and SK.Zacard. This was by far one of the best games I've ever casted, the crowd was absolutely amazing! They were all so into the games and pumped, and they were screaming and cheering so I couldn't help but scream and cheer as well. I had a awesome time and will always remember my time here. Thanks everyone for your support and for following the coverage. I wish I had more time to do more, but I'm completely exhausted now and ready to relax and party :P

    MaDFroG was my favourite player, when he came back from Korea he displayed some astonishing micro and pretty much dominated all of his European opponents. However he should have quit when he announced his retirement, he has been unable to compete with the very best players since his return and for a while now. He hasn't shown the level of play he used to show and I don't like to see him getting beaten like this, even Shortround is beating him 1-0 in the loser's bracket.

    FroG has admitted in a new SK insider interview, that he's not been playing a lot and has been caught in two minds as to what he wants to do with himself. But he goes on to say that he wants to become good again, so maybe we can look forward to FroG playing at a high level again. Dissapointed FuRy didn't do better vs Shortround, there were times in both games where he looked like winning.
