Location of Secret Shop

What's the point of placing the Secret Shop outside the base away from the rest of the shops? Was this a stylistic choice or a strategic choice by Icefrog? How does the secret shops' location benefit the game?

Anyways. It has some strategy to it because, even if you have shitloads of gold, you simply cannot get any big tier4 items if you are under siege. Also it balances the long lanes a bit, since they are closer to their respective secret shops. This might, or might have not been an idea implemented by Guinsoo (my personal bet is on the second option, he just made the map symetrical).

the purpose of secret sho got ruined (what some1 said, you can't get items if you're surrounded, gives pushing heroes a chance in the late game, blah blah blah) by the introduction of crow. now it's there for nostalgic purposes i guess.

1.) It gives a strategic point in the map where players are drawn to, where you can gank them or place traps, it forces them to move around the map more and makes matches more interesting

2.) The current head developer of dota is icefrog, not madfrog and is not a retired swedish undead player.

Btw im not sure if you meant the "secret shop" secret shop which is the acolyte or the side lane hidden shops. Those do also bring different dynamics into the lane choice as you have them in the side lanes but not mid and also help players get items quickly, which makes farming succes in side lines more direct.

i think secret shop is the place for techies to mine in nob games, but i never seen a 5v5 battle by secret shop or in the same alley.
