I have just started playing warcraft a week ago on ladder. Is it just me or is UD a non-existent race. What is the most unused race and why? Also does it differ in different levels of play and why?

Cheers.

I see tons of Undeads, and there are more than enough of them on these forums lol. What server, I'm going to guess West or East, probably the latter?

All of the races are used fairly equally. Human less at the higher eschelon of pro play, but at the lower levels, not that anyone's measured it, I think it's FAIRLY equal, although I believe Orc and Elf are the most popular races. I'm talking out of my ass here though, I don't know for sure.

I haven't thought about that. Is there any advantage to playing random?

enemy doesn't know what race you are when the game begins

it's decent advantage because some races have certain build orders vs others and them not knowing what race you are makes them go standard which might not be the best thing vs your race

I think Human is the least popular race, mostly because of how often you see towers and how boring the replays are when you do mass towers.

Orc is definately the most popular race in ladder play atm, followed by night elf. Human and undead are around the same. This just comes from general play on ladder. Hu Ne Ud are all rather close but on one of my accs I played 2x as many orcs 40 games against orc compared to ~ 20 for other races, although this may even out.

High ladder on west consists of 60% orcs and then human, and then a mix of ud/elf. I fight so little undeads that when the match comes where I actually fight them I get owned cause I'm lacking in experience.

You have to go for a adaptable build vs random. Your base layout is also a question mark.

When I play against random players (I play orc), I usually leave one entrance to my base, but in such a fashion that if I have to block it (orc mirror), I just have to place one extra burrow in the right spot. In other words, I leave it semi-blocked and see if I'll have to close it entirely based on his race/base build. If he's doing a BM fast shop/tech, I know it's a proto strat and I know 99% of the times he's gonna harass my peons forever, so I might even block it before I tech. Chances are I'll lose even more lumber if I don't.

If I fear burrow rape (ud or human mostly), I'll build my next burrows behind my great hall and in the back of my base.

Yeah, UD is probabbly the least used race. It's not that they're hard to play with, it's just they are alot different from other races. Timing is very important with UD imo, and only experience can get you to master that.

Ofcourse, random is used even less. I exclusively play random, not only does it give you an advantage as people use different build orders for different races (IE fast alter for militia creeping, tavern hero, hunts/archers, fiends/ghouls, etc), but it's fun ot play different races, the game is always different and fun for me. If you play one race, you have 4 different matchups on any of the maps. If you play 4 races, you have 16 matchups on any of the maps.

Sure, you may not become pro this way, but fuck, if you really want to get some fun out of this game I say random all the way.

For me one of the frustrations is that undead games always always (or usually) go pretty damn late. Especially at lower levels where it's hard to capitalize on smaller advantages. I'm usually forced to bank and then mass up to 70-80 food. I've been winning a lot lately, it's just annoying how often my games go 15-30 minutes.

18 games versus undead
19 games versus human
31 games versus elf
35 games versus orc

So yeah. undead is played the least. Lucky me.

well when i took a look in my match report (i have over 800 solo games) it looks like this:
23% hu opponents
34% orc "
17% ud "
26% elf "

pretty much sumes it up.

more and more orcs on battle net on solo
furthermore, on at 2v2 , i never see undead
solo and 2v2at are the most popular, and orc>ud on solo, that's why there so few undead...

Id agree that Nelf/Orc share the majority of players..whereas Hum/Ud there seems to be less of with Ud even less that Human...I dunno maybe its cos there more prone to laming OHHH Im viewing this from what I see on B.net not pro scene or whatever.

On Northrend it's like:

Orcs -> Elves ->>> Undeads ->>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Humans

Hard to get good at HU MU when you never play them. I think the Bnet Teranas Stand tourny was the only time i've ever played 2 human players in a row.

Ye, I'd add a few >>s between orcs and elves, but otherwise that seems relatively accurate.

I find it interesting to compare the thread count for each race in the strategy sections of wcreplays. traditionally, Orc has the most threads, closely followed by Elf, then a distant third is usually ud then human.

Obviously, most people like talking about Orc. Ergo, Orc most popular, and UD or human least popular.

I bet the small amount of UD players is directly related to the large amount of orc players.

I haven't thought about that. Is there any advantage to playing random?

There is and there isn't, I mean you have to learn 16 different matchups, but on the plus side, your opponent basically HAS to go the standard, which gives you the upper hand when it comes to innovation.

what about 2v2 matches, which race is the most unpopular in 2v2 matches?
me, i never saw a 2v2 match consisting human in pro level(replays)
its always pairs of orc/nelf or ud/nelf...

some why i think human are the weakest race in the game, especially against NE

i mean, the only reason for a newbie not to choose orc/nelf/ud is because human units look much cooler(knights breaker and even footman). this is also the reason i always play human lol
if u brought any human player back in time to choose another race i think he would choose orc/nelf

the problem with human is that in solo they can control the pace of the game very easily

(militia creeping to level 3, fast expanding, tower tanking, fast building sanctums) however in team games this is drastically reduced as they will just focus down your teammate if you try to do half of these things.

The humans that do play tend to do either a 1 mine tech to tier three knights/morts with a couple priests, or a fast expand to fast sanctums for breakers, priests, sorcs, morts and feeding.

In 4V4 RT, Nelf and UD are pretty common with their mass chims/frosties ...

Why? I play plenty more NE mirrior on Northrend than I do Ne v Ud.

There's not exactly rare per se, but I play less than 25% undead.

To answer your question, UD seems non-existence because most of them are sick of dealing with the BM "imba".

Human seems non-existance on my ladder it seems.
