You should learn through drawing what you see. Most people that draw, don't draw what they see they draw symbols of what they are drawing. An example is how people draw eyes. Most people will draw an oval with a circle in it and lines off of the top of it for eyelashes. That is NOT how an eye looks. The easy way to draw what you see is drawing the negative space (negative space is what is around an object) Let's say you want to draw a head. You would start not with any of the details, but start with what the outer shape of the face actually looks like. In order to figure out the shading, if you a using a reference you would draw the shape of the shading and work in the shading starting very light slowly moving to dark. Also try googling how to draw.
