I just LOVE his pose for some reason, and you really made him look evil - it feels like he's going to kill me when I look at the picture, very nice. I like the coloring too!

The original is indeed too light, but the second one is slightly too dark in places (the wings, body and head are just fine, but you've lost detail on the black parts - might want to make those a bit lighter). Other than that - good job!

hmmmm... just a few things.. its a great picture... but the dreadlord has more claws then hands... not just long nails...the pose is great, its show him as evil and deadly, but also as an intellectual, which he is...

also, dreadlords are very pale.... not such a brownish tanned skin color

but those are minor things that are up for interpretation

It's not really a DL in war3 though with the slick white mask-like face. This one has tree-like qualities like treeants.
