first off, my main char is a mage whose going enchanting/tailoring. im thinking of making a priest alt (or maybe a shaman, but probably a priest) for fun, and while im at it, to make some money. im thinking mining/herbalism, but would mining/skinning or herbalism/skinning be better? since skinning can somewhat help my tailoring (not a whole lot, but some) for my mage. thankie

Don't expect to have money as a tailor/enchanter at lower levels, unless you just sell enchanting reagents.

Mining/Skinning ftw, I have 20-something gold at lev 24 after buying my First Aid past 150 skill and Heavy Silk Bandage at AH.

Mining/skinning is the best.

I have herb/skinning atm, not making so much on the herbs :(

With mine/skinn I have 35g at lvl 22.

Do you AH the skins that you get? or vendor them? On my server everyone sells leathers on the AH, and the price is rather low on stacks.

Going off what Teleporter said, I have been selling medium, heavy, and thick leather a lot lately - you don't make huge bucks per stack, but they sell well and you make more than the vendor price, so you get good money when you put a bunch up for auction.

I would say best money making professions would be

-Mining - arcane crystals on my server sell around 30-35g a pop
-Enchanting (for disenchanting only) make pretty good $$$ off this, especially if you are a rogue.

On my shaman two days ago I got 4 g from vending medium leathers and a few heavies.
