View Full Version : WC For Dummies #3 (Hu vs UD)

First, it's late and I need to get to bed, so I'm not going to set up a "SpeierG's Audio Thread" with a profile and all that just yet. I may get to that later...we'll see.
But, I do have another 27+ minutes of Audio love for you guys and this time it is NOT one of my own games (it's between a couple of gosu players, well, let's put it this way, don't say they aren't gosu unless you can prove that you've beat them yourself). ;)
Sick of losing to UD? Tired of the same old Archmage/MK hero combo? Well, this audio covers a completely different approach to the Undead match-up using a Solo MK strategy and an aggressive play-style that attempts to end the game before the UD player can assemble all his tier 3 atrocities.
I am using the Rapidshare gayness for now but I'm looking into other hosting alternatives and I'll switch this link if I can find a better way to host. But this will have to do for now. EDIT: Lotus has kindly agreed to host this AC as well. See the non-rapidshare link below. Thank you Lotus!!!!!!
As always, your feedback is appreciated.
Enjoy!

Non-rapidshare link (i.e. Lotus rocks) to WC for Dummies #3 (http://mywarcraftaudios.co.za/audios/WC_for_Dummies_3.zip)
EDIT: I used a lower-quality bit rate in order to shrink the file size way down...so the sound won't be quite as good, but it should be a much quicker download. Let me know if the quality is still good enough for your ears.

wow..just fantastic man, loved this audio was ur best one yet in my oppinioin. Every question i was asking in my head u answerd and just wow, great. Especially since it was a very unique strat was very good. One thing i was thinking is if it was you playing or some other noob player would people have really taken that mk strat as seriously? Killing machine lol, anyway fantastic job hope to see many more.

yea nice job man, very well explained. I enjoyed it a lot. Damn, there was something else I wanted to say, but I dont remember what it is. Heh, Shriek was using a NE strat as HU. Mass Tier 1 ^^ Element of surprise > all.

I would like to say that I really, truly enjoyed both this audio and the previous one. I think it's a great idea to use your own games, even if you aren't that great yet, because you speak to a wide audience with those basic tips that many of us take for granted. That point about making a decision or plan of action right after you TP out is something that I really need to work on and that I believe to be very valuable advice. There seems to be something that you can learn from everyone when it comes to Warcraft, nomatter your skill level.
I think it's great that you did an audio on a more unique strat than the standard archmage rifle/caster build, as it's always nice to get those things out there for experimentation and variation. If anyone is interested in a fairly good human using an MK/Paladin build against NE, check out my second audio in my thread. He does lose, but it seems to be what many of you were suggesting in this replay and I reference it simply as food for thought.
Anyway, great job and I hope to see some more.

I like it, I like it alot.
I can tell that you have watched this replay and taken notes of points that you want to discuss so that when you get there, you're not just dribbling vaguely remembered crap, you're very concise. That alone makes this a great AC.
I honestly think that this AC is one of the best I've sat through. I know that you're noobish and all but you know whats going on, and I think with some practice you sound like you'll be a really good player.
Really nice work, and I think the replay you chose was a great replay to do an AC on.
Oh yeah, the audio quality was spot-on. I appreaciated the reduced file-size. :)
pretty nice audio, you explained very well how this strat works (that doesn't sound like proper english somehow....) although why didnt shriek got pally at T2? he had enough resources... and It would had helpen a lot if the game would have lasted any longer....

hm i think it was the expansion that he had up and the fact of the solo hero exp factor. he had the money for a 2nd hero yes.but also had money for potions and such, and that mk wouldnt have got such a high level i dont think..and i dont kno wwhat english you speak but sounded fine to me :curious:

Thanks to all for the positive feedback. I did put a little bit more effort into this AC and from what you guys are saying, it sounds like it paid off.
America: Thanks so much for the generous comments. I think you are right about people not taking this strat as seriously if it wasn't done by a "pro" player. But when someone like Shriek does it, maybe people will give it a chance.
FlameDarkKnight: Ha ha! Glad you enjoyed that line. That was kind of spur of the moment.
Hmf: Thanks man. Glad you liked it. I'll try to keep the Human AC's coming.
Sly: Pally 2nd would have been a good choice, but as America mentioned, perhaps he just wanted to really level up that MK. You do get an XP bonus when you have a solo hero. As DrZap said, it's kind of like the solo DH/mass Hunts strat. A level 6 MK is every bit as scary as a level 6 DH imo.
DrZap: Thanks man. Let me know if you remember the thing you forgot. ;)
MonteCristo: Thanks for the kind words. I haven't really been able to play many games myself of late, thus, I have no good material to work with as far as my own games are concerned. I certainly won't rule out doing another AC on one of my own games if I can get around to playing enough (and well enough) to have something worth sharing with the community.
Enowe: Did you get to listen to it? I'd love to know what you thought. Your audios were some of the first that I ever listened to here in the Member AC Forum.
Mordox: Thanks a ton man. That was some really great feedback and showed that you really appreciated the time I put into this AC. That kind of feedback gets me pumped up to do another one soon. Thanks again. :)
Murh: Thanks man. See my response above regarding Pally 2nd.

Enowe!!! Dude please do some audios!!! You pwn.
Anyway, so I finally listed to it and my god...that audio was awsome!!!! So damn professional and insightful:
1.Good voice
2.Good vocabularly.
3. MK + Pal is a good strat versus UD. I've died to that several times.... =[
4. Good explanation skills...again your choice of words and the fact that youy could repeat yourself without over-doing it but rather reinforcing your message.
It's hard to do HU ACs cos there's just so little diversity. Good job on this audio. This is without a doubt you rbest audio (haven't listened to 2nd yet).
Oh and the music was nice too.

You just have a natural "radio" voice/manner, with the added benefit that you seem to know what you're talking about, and have the audio structured and worked out well (particularly the last one - you knew when you were going to pause and what points you needed to cover at any given point).
Like L0tus said it's just very professional.

Hey hey I just finished listening to this and that was a nice job man! It's been said above me but your voice is quite comfortable to listen to, your intonation varies which is really good! I wonder how you manage to keep up such a lively voice for close to half an hour! Same with other commentators by the way :)
I think you did a good job pointing out all the aspects that Shriek had integrated into this Mk-style approach, although for some reason you found buying dust at the shop very special? :)
I like it that you comment on the special occasions in the game like surround actions.
By the way, I think Shriek bought the healing scrolls against aoe (particularly the lich..) and not really to counter the lightning shield, although he did a great job improvising like that, right? hmm maybe he really was expecting the ls to hurt him badly...
You could really up the sound quality. If you don't want to lose the 56K people, then put up two different versions.
It's good that you offer this strategy the way you do, more like surprising people in ladder than the super high levels of play.
Overall I couldn't really find many flaws in this AC and you had your facts all sorted out very well, so good job!! You are very good at explaining things clearly, so in-depth strategy commentaries are your kinda stuff!
Keep it up, improve the sound quality, and I'll be checking out your next one ;)
Cheers!

Piscinex: Thanks for the feedback man!
Woot: Thanks for the comments...a couple of things I'd like to respond to. 1.) I wasn't awed by Shriek buying the dust of appearance. Rather, I thought that it showed (a) he was paying attention enough to see that a couple of fiends were burrowed and he remembered where they were burrowed and (b) it showed a bit of quick thinking to use the MK (while he had about 50 HP) for something positive while he was invisible...typically, if I invis my hero, I just kind of forget about him until the battle is over.
2.) You're right about the healing scrolls. I didn't mean to imply that Shriek bought them to counter the potential lightnigh shield. I'm sure he bought them to counter Nova. However, it was nice work by him to use the scroll in a timely fashion to counter the lightning shield (which was a nice move also, I thought, by his opponent). So, like you said, the improvisation or quick thinking was what I was trying to point out. It's easy to think of that kind of thing when watching a replay, or after the fact, but to think quickly and to use these types of ideas in the heat of battle is pretty cool, imo.
3.) I'll see if there's any way I can improve sound quality without significantly increasing file size, or as you suggested, I'll consider making two different files, one for the 56k crowd and one for the high speed crowd. The only drawback of doing that is the upload time it will take to get both files up there (upload is generally slower than download and can be a bit of a pain even with a high speed connection sometimes). But, I'll see what I can do if I have the time.
Again, thanks for listening and for taking the time to give me your thoughts. Much appreciated!!!!

Was a great audio, have tryed that strat my self.... It works around 50% of the times, it depends alot on which map I play on, and mu. Gonna download the audio you did against night elf right now.

ENOWE: Cool. Glad you liked it. What do you think are the maps that go well with this strat? On the one hand, I'd think easy fast expo maps would work well, but on the other hand, maybe it's better on maps where they don't expect the fast expo. What do you think?
By the way, I don't think my NE commentary was as good, and it was one of my own games (I'm not a total noob, but I'm no gosu either). So, it will have a very different flavor from my latest commentary, but you may still like it. Let me know what you think.

Human_Tactics: Glad you liked it. Thanks for the support.
Fighting_Cow: Thanks for the compliment (front-page worthy comment). I appreciate that. Sorry you didn't like the first two AC's I did...perhaps they were too noob-oriented for you (but you can't say I didn't warn you :D ). Not sure what I'll do next (one of my own games or another gosu game) but I'll be sure to include that in the description so that you'll know what to expect.

Hey man, i agree with fightingcow, the quality of this audio was frontpage. You talked clearly throughout the whole replay and didnt muck up what you were saying nearly as much as what some of the front page ACers do. When my internet gets going properly, we should have that game sometime =P

Laget: Sounds good man. I'd love to play some practice games. Just don't expect me to be very good. :) Thanks so much for the positive feedback. Hopefully I can find an interesting game to do another AC on in the next week. Let me know when you are back on-line.
You make some of the best audios on the site. Especially liked the last audio you did, quite the change of pace...

All I have to say is, extremly good. You picked a replay with some Azeroth names, which was pretty neat. I definetly thought that you explained things extremely though. Your AC was well thought out and you knew alot of facts such as the percent conversions and stuff like that.
Great AC and keep up the great work man.

very nice AC.... it's been awhile since ive listened to a human AC... and its some pretty nice job... i've tried it though and i sucked....probably coz im getting use to that archmage style...but the replay was fun to check...you should do more audios with gosus' replays....they really rock and ive learned alot...but your own replays sucked :P (jk)

Hon-NobleLight and Mutineer: Thanks man. Glad you liked it.
Perfect_noob: Thanks for the feedback. I've tried this strat a couple of times since doing this AC and I've had pretty good luck with it (3-0 so far...as you can see, I don't play that much). All three times was against UD, which seems to be the best race to use this against. Twice it was on LT where it worked well due to the easy fast expo. The 3rd time was on Twisted Meadows where the fast expo wasn't expected.
I've been thinking about trying this against Night Elf too just for kicks, but probably only on bigger maps. It does take a little getting used to...I found myself making lots of dumb mistakes because it's such a different style than the typical AM/MK, etc. which apparently I've grown quite accustomed to.

Mattbandelt, thanks for asking about my next audio. I just got back in town last night from a one-week camping trip. I'm going to be home for about 3 days and then I go away again for about 3 weeks. It's probably not likely that I'll get around to doing another AC before I go away. If I have time and can find a good replay I'll see what I can do. But, if you don't get one from me in the next few days, then I'll focus on doing one soon after I get back home (which will be around Aug 19th or so). Again, thanks for asking for another AC because it shows that you appreciate my past work and I'm grateful for that...sorry I've been so busy lately.
