Got a trio going on Mannoroth. Hunter is going Mi/Eng, Rogue is going Mi/??, and the Druid I have atm is Herb/Alch.
The ?? with the rogue ties into the Druid. Given Leatherworking kinda blows for the Hunter with the Armor made not being great, I was thinking of going Sk/LW for the druid as dragonscale is not to bad for a druid later on. The ?? atm for the rogue could be either Sk or Herb to assist with the other two alts there.
Just wondering your thoughts over here on it to give me that nudge in the right direction.

i think either could work. i've got enchanting and tailoring as i figured those would be two good money makers...turns out i was wrong for now at least :) anyway, i think herb/alch will be better because once your high level you won't want to wear any of the trash you can make with any kind of crafting...you'll be wearing your superior/epic set pieces. i guess you could use it as a substitute until then but i don't see those types of crafting being useful later on. i think for 1.6 blizz REALLY needs to step up professions and make them comparable to the drop/pvp item sets...as it is now you don't gain a whole lot by spending all the time it takes to craft that epic piece and then have it not fit in with anything else =[
with tailoring though you can make bags and that's obviously useful. and i chose enchanting because i wanted something different and everybody says enchanting gets better at upper levels (300 lol)...so we'll see i guess. currently i haven't been putting a whole lot into my professions so both are pretty low, and i haven't done like anything for my 3 secondaries. but its your call ;)
I think alchemy is the best. atleast till you've been 60 for mounths and need engineering for PvP.
Mana / HP pots are so freakin useful, can't tell how many times they've saved my life.
+any stat potions, some potions give 2 stats.
Invis, speed, swim speed, free action (immune to stuns / immoblizing effects for 30sec) potions also own.
Resist potions own against casters, as do Invulnerbility (sp?) potions against melee.
Theres a potion that give HP per sec, and one that gives you more stealth detection (owns rogues!)
Theres also potions that give you a % to cast certain spells (Frostbolt, Shadowbolt, etc) on normal attacks. That could be useful for the rogue / hunter.
Theres alot more you can make, but yeah you get the picture, alchemy owns.
Edit:: About other tradeskills, I reccomand you put all your cloth that you get into FA, its just toooo useful.
Also, if you get alchemy, your gonna have to fish.
Cooking gives awesome +stat on some of the food you can make later on.
But I never botherd with it...5 tradeskills is enough for me o_o
Tell your rogue friend though to get cooking to 65 to make that thing that instantly gives 100 energy (Forget the name)

i think you got it a bit confused...
dragonscale makes mail armor, druids can't wear mail, so dragonscale is not good for druids.
black dragonscale armor is stamina/attack power gear which actually IS good for hunters.
None of the craftable gear is really the best possible anyway (except the class specific tailoring recipes, which don't apply to you, and plate stuff in armorsmithing).
I'd say go with herb and help your alch out. Alchemy may not make money but its very useful to use for yourself.

In the end you won't really get any use for lw and skining so I say go herb/alch for best use later on
