Encouraged by SMRT's replay, I figured I'd try one of my own. This is a 4 man ladder FFA on monsoon between my human aka (HumanCancer), another human, an undead, and an orc. I don't have names because battle.net isn't updating recently, but I don't think these 3 are anyone specific, and playing against high level players really wasn't the point of this replay. Sly commented that these FFA replays should have more insight on the gametype, so I tried to have the replay focus on these areas:
- Why bother playing FFA
- Scouting
- Creeping / map specifics
- Chat, player boiling points
- Intelligent Battles and Battle Philosophy (When to fight, when to run)
- Formation
- Common mistakes
I tried not to focus on army composition or many of the other specific issues of races, but comments are welcome. If there's interest, I'm sure myself or someone else can come up with replays focusing on more specific areas.
Enjoy

Heh, I linked to it from lone when I initially posted, but I don't think there's a point in posting this replay to slacks without the audio...

Yes, for a first audio, this was excellent. Im definitly going to try FFA now, because I loved your insight on FFA. Hell, maybe ill do a FFA commentary. Also, FFA commentaries were done before. If you remember Dootch from wcreplays, if you have ever craft, he has some 1.16 audios that are free for all. So yea, nice job man. Ill definitly try free for all now.
Downwhere did one, but they weren't really that great since they didn't know much of the gametype.

Heya HumanCancer I've been getting some of the smaller ffa maps lately and been having trouble with them. Any tips on how to deal with these smaller maps?

Well, if you look at the selection of replays posted at www.slackpages.com/ffareplays, you'll be hard pressed to find replays dealing with copper canyon and most especially predators. You get two thumbs for FFA, and I think most people choose to thumbs down both of those. When Blizz first changed the FFA maps, I thought..."cool, it's nice to have a change of strategies." I don't think so anymore, and I don't play those. Basically, they both encourage different strategies, but those strategies don't mesh well with all the other maps. Both have few creeps, so single or double hero strategies are much more viable. Few creeps = low hero levels = high casualty battles...meaning gold is more important. So, you see a lot more rushing, and because of this, a hell of a lot more luck (at least IMO). Also, with limited gold, the racial differences come out a lot more. Less gold usually plays in the favor of orc and elf. If you're trying to get into FFA, I'd recommend NOT playing on these maps, so that you can focus on developping a consistent style of play.

Great commentary. I liked the insight into the strategic decisions you made and why you decided to do what you did.
It would be great if you get a game with better opponents and did an audio on that. I definitely look forward to another FFA commentary from you :)

As Frozgard mentioned, the skill level wasn't particularly the highest from any player besides yourself. But alas, the audio itself was golden. Very insightful, and suprisingly fluid for such a long replay that started at 15 seconds and was at 1x speed. Keep it up, I really enjoy the FFA gametype, but before your audio, the horridly long replays sort of distracted me from all the mind games and stuff that actually is involved in the play.
