View Full Version : A thought about instance running

Some guy is yelling in Orgrimmar right now about a raid forming for Strath undead side and I realized I hadn't been in a raid in a nonraid instance in a very long time.
On my last server, no one did instances 5-man. Everything was a raid, and as a result you had to run each instance a billion times for your gear because some newb would always get the loot.
Even before the nerfs, my current guild ran 5-man instances with 5 people. The only exception was Scholo, which was about 60/40 raiding because it took so damn long.
Especially with the current nerfed state of high-level 5-man instances, why in hell would anyone raid them? Honestly it takes about the same amount of time with the organization on the front end, the rebuffing, the AFKs - and in the end you get very little for your efforts where with a 5-man you can get good stuff, complete quests, and make a little money!
Someone explain this to me. o_O

They're just used to it I guess, or sometimes they can't get the right class balance within the first 5 people and try to fill it up with the next 5.
ATM I'm mostly PVPing (like 150k/week) but I stick to 5 man runs unless its UBRS etc.
I think they just want a fast run, or are too lazy to actually put some effort in it.
But as it turns out usually, 10 man raids on 5 man instances often take equally long, simply because it's too easy. People go afk for a few minutes, and then some wipe happens because too much was pulled for a group with 6-7 non-afkers.
I've done scholo and lbrs in 10 man once and it went exactly like that. After that i'd always go in a 5-man guildgroup. Which not only is more fun, it's also more rewarding. My fav used to be strat scarlet 5-man, but now that they removed like half of the mobs it's not that cool anymore :/
As i said, people just like it easy mode. They want a fast run and then hope that the other member of their class already has that item, or that he wins the roll.

i do raids in nonraid instances to get it done fast. on my server it's pretty much an unstated fact that you get one blue per person per run, pickup group or otherwise (not counting greed rolls) so usually getting things out of the instance isn't a problem (if you're going for your set pieces or whatever). if you want some more minor item you might have to end up 5 manning it to keep your chances high. but overall it especially isn't a problem for me (not getting what i need) because i play druid and, well, let's just say i like to keep it that i'm the only druid in the group ;)

1 blue per person per run?
That works great when there are 2 of a class in a raid and 1 set piece drops.

if more than one person needs something is worked out, or multiple people roll on it. from my experience though that generally doesn't happen and most people leave happy one way or another.

10 man runs of 5 man instances can be made fun, through the joy of moonfire pulling. For example after your group finishes up the Lich in scholo, you head over to the slow skeleton aoe room. Then you moonfire as deep in as you can reach, shift into cat and sprint back to your group, while pretending that nothing is amiss.

whoa, really? I'm with Saph on this one, I almost never get a piece I want on raid runs, some other [expletive] always goes need on it, rolls, and gets it over me.

well raids do go a bit faster, and I do like to relax a bit when I instance. I like not having the responsibility really.
I also dont really go for set gear, so when stuff like the thuzadin sash drops which I think is uber for a blue I often get it np.
If I do a 5man, its either to get quests done or because I feel like challenging myself a bit. I did a rend run 5man and it was pretty fun even though I didnt need any gear.

obviously raids are tricker to get the gear you need but sometimes its the only option. and again, as a druid, it's very easy for me to get the pieces i want since very few people want them. if any. i can't remember the last time i was on a raid with more than one other druid who wanted to roll on wh. but tbh i don't really know if i like wh all that much -.-

For me raiding any Instance is just ruining the fun of a 5-man party. And if its farming your after raiding an instance inst the best way either. So I really only raid instances that need to be raided or take a lot longer if you do not raid them. So yeah MC, BWL, Onyxia and uBRS after Rend or if you do the Father Flame event.

I do the exact same things whether I am in a raid or a 5-man. I sheep, I remove curses, do damage, take mobs off healers where needed, and pull if necessary. If anything, raids drag me down because I end up compensating for the people who are just along for the ride. Those are the same people who don't pay attention and aggro mobs, go afk, arrive a half hour late to the instance, forget to repair, and leave after they get what they wanted.
Aylward, I'll be around after the patch to play with my druid a bit. I'll also be on the test server a lot probably as soon as I can copy over.

Our guild's 10 man 3-am strat runs are priceless, seriously...we need to fraps this stuff.
All I can say is...everyone's pulling mobs, bosses and ninja looting everything they can the entire time basically. It's like, you can make a 5man instance super easy with 10, or you can pull 3x as many mobs and have a fucking great time.
For instance...when we get to the living side of scarlet strat, I'll fear basically every mob, every pull...howl of terror, fear...it's not too uncommon to pull a hallway, a room, and end up with 10 or 12 adds...priests fear, warriors fear, we get 5 more....and like 5 minutes later we've got maybe 1 or 2 dead of us, 10 or 15 dead mobs, and it's just really a blast.
We're on vent laughing hilariously, you really just have to be there I guess.
The other night, we were about 15 mobs away from the archivest and a rogue is just laughing hilariously...turns out he pulled the boss and started sprinting towards us....oh man, we wiped but it was so worth it.
IDK it sounds stupid when I read it back but you just really have to be there.
You can't take a 8-10man run seriously, or it DOES become dull.
Now a 5 man run for quests or w/e we can take seriously if we need to and pound it out, but really we just goof off.
HOW MANY TIMES CAN YOU DO STRAT/SCHOLO/BLACKROCK SPIRE AND TAKE IT SERIOUSLY???
It helps that most of us don't even really need gear, and if we do it's usually for a level 49-55 alt that we bring to gearup because aggro range = fun.
It's funny, too...we end up getting quite a lot of epics and giving them off to the guild or w/e. In the last 2 weeks, maybe 10 or 12 runs thru strat (ud side first, then scarlet) we've gotten a couple BOE epics, and 3 epics off balnazzar (truefaith vestments pattern x2 and a book of the dead that I won)

In Scholo our MT pulls every mob in the room of exploding mobs and I AE them. It's true. :)

The first AE room there with those mini-bosses leading up to gandling, the one with the non-elites...we once had 2 mages blink in at the boss and start nova/AE the entire room. One of the funniest things I've ever seen.
Both lived, too.
