post your oppinions on picking 2 gathering skills over picking one main profession (forgot the name for it) and one gathering. personally i dont see the point in NOT picking 2 gathering skills.

Well if everyone had 2 gathering skills there wouldn't be anything to spend your money on besides epic mounts. Sure it's nice for money, but i personally prefer to do something with the materials i get, rather than just throw them all on AH or give it away to guildies.

Since most of the cool stuff you can make from non-gathering professions comes when you reach higher levels (makes sense), i guess it's best to go 2 gathering skills (mining + something) while leveling up, and then later on switch the 'something' to engineering or so.
If you don't really care about being productive, just go engineering for the fun factor.

Don't forget the "it rules in PvP far more than any other profession" factor.

Mining/skinning used to be the best combo, but I think herbalism/skinning is much better now since jaded players hate picking flowers and will pay ridiculous prices for them.

im not sure. i have a mining/skinning char and a herbalism/skinning, and i for the most part get the same amount of money from herbalsim ans mining. skinning on the otherhand has been reeling in about no money at alkl. im getting about 10-20s per stack of light leather. is this just abnormal for my server, or are other skinners having trouble with this? also, i plan on dropping on of my skills for engineering, having 2 gathering skills all game would be boring as hell.

higher level herbs start to get quite pricey. And yeah light leather and medium leather sell like crap. Gets better heavy on up, but skinning isn't a huge money maker, its benefit lies in that its so easy to do while you are questing. If you can do it in volume by camping spots where people frequently kill beasts you can do quite well.

A lot of people drop one of their gathering skills when they gather enough money for a mount (90g)

ive recently changed my profession into mining/skinning. While it is a very boring combination, the rewards are great. Well yea its both gathering, and you cant craft anything. The good thing is that you've got guildies who's doing the crafting for you. So all you need to do is send em in to them. Plus, you get money from selling your minerlas and skins.

I do my farming (both skin and minerals) in winterspring. The amount of farmers (mostly china farmers) is surprising. They hunt down bears, wolves, bigfoots, chims, everything. So while i go running around WS for minerals, i skin their carcasses =) Imagine within 20-30 minutes, i get about 35 skins and hides (rugged, chims, bear, wolf) plus 10-15 thoriums, of course with chances of crystals. In fact i had 2 occasions where more than 1 crytal dropped in 1 vein. The most surprising was this: 1st strike gave me an azerothian diamond, 2nd strike gave me a huge diamond and an arcane crystal! Can you believe that 3 crystals in 1 vein =D. OH ya and another good reason to farm in WS is i HK peeps =)

i'm getting no money on my server either for leather. Heavy leather goes for 35 silver a stack and thick leather goes for 65silver a stack.
