How to merge two layers togheter?

i was trying to do this but i dunno how to merge two layers :( it was just the first part...

wtf...could not complete because not enough memory(ram)....i've got 512 isnt that enough :( damn

Click on the layer you want to merge and go to the tab Layer/Merge Down or just hit ctrl+e hope it helps.
