select, feather, then delete (or add mask.. but if you are just blending, a delete suffices, and if necessary, undo is your friend. adding a mask just makes it seem more confusing if you are new.. its pretty simple.. but uh.. yeah.)
select box, go to Select --> Feather, enter a number like 20 or 30.. maybe higher if you are blending a few large pictures, then just hit delete.. or shift+ctrl+I (select inverse) and delete, depending on what part you want to erase.
cookie plz

not sure if this is what you mean by "blend" but maybe this will help:
Ok lets say you have 2 pictures you want to "blend" together. Create a new file to the size you want, then open both of the picture files. Press ctrl+a to select the entire picture, then ctrl+c to copy the picture, then go to your new file and press ctrl+v to paste it onto a new layer. Do this for your other picture aswell.
Now position the pictures where you wish to have them, then select the top picture and go to Layer/Add Layer Mask/Reveal All. Then select the gradient tool and make sure your foreground color is white and background color is black. Select the linear gradient from the top menu bar. Now position the pointer to the left side of the image, click + hold and drag to the middle of the image then let go. The picture will now "blend" into the image below.
Practice with different angles and gradient types to get different effects.
