It was bound to happen sooner or later seeming as Dota has grown so large over the time. Check your custom map games listing and tell me how many of those games are Dota. I'd say a good 75% of the games are Dota.
I dont get this. Dota is very boring and actually no fun at all to play more than once a week. Doesnt make sense people are actually addicted to it... I prefer WC3, atleast that requires skill.

Alright, let me be the first to say this. If you don't like DOTA, stay the hell out of the DOTA forums. It's made, you arn't going to get it removed at this point unless you bring everyone into a flame war with your DOTA bashing. :( Just let the people who enjoy the game enjoy the game and discuss it here. If you have the opposite opinion of the game, let it slide.

DOTA requires skill -.- You can micro your hero around to get every creep kill and gain fast money, or kill your own weak creeps to stop the other team from gaining experience. Also, maybe you tried public DOTA's... those tend to be boring. Check out /join Clan TDA They have a nice system for DOTA players.

I assume you did some very thorough research regarding how much skill is required to play the game and how much fun people have playing the game before coming to those conclusions, because otherwise those would be baseless accusations which would lead me to believe that you are a dirty, dirty liar.
You're not a liar, are you?

well i think dota is about a skill but not same as wc3. 4 examle u never move away units while u see TC stomping etc. U just cant make it in time . U dont care if u kill enemy unit or itas gonna be killed by your allies. etc. I know u have to be much more skilled to play wc3 good (more units etc) but DOTA about team game like CS. yea its CS in WC coat :P (basicly CS is about precise click on enemy head :) . And thats why its so popular TEAM action coz 4 example wc3 in 4v4 or 5v5 suxx :(

I think every single WC3 player should be happy with DOTA, it only makes WC3 more popular as game. DOTA will make WC3 last longer imo.

Ok I like to play DOTA but you guys claiming that it requires "skill" are wrong. Yes it does require some skill but it only requires a fraction of the skill of melee. I would say it's like comparing playing basketball to that of just eating. Yes eating involves being skilled at putting food in your mouth and using your hands while basketball takes a good deal of more skill then "eating." Understand? :D

It's not a 'plain fact' just because you say it is. DotA requires a completely different skillset than ladder does. It's like comparing WoW and ladder - two completely different things.

I think DOTA is great. Not because it's a good or complex game , but simply because all the shitty players move to full time DOTA and it makes the ladder for the real game more serious and competitive.

Maybe a better comparison would be that you can play Basketball with the Rules for regular Basketball (I have no idea what all of them are) Just like how you can play ladder. Or you could play that game in basketball when you were a little kid called "Horse" I think it was. Just like how you can play DotA.

DOTA is for ladder washouts.
If you can't cut it in solo, you play AT.
If you can't cut it in AT, you play RT.
If you can't cut it in RT, DOTA is where you belong.
DOTA players have even less grounds than RT players arguing that it requires skill. DOTA to WC3 isn't like eating to baseball, but more like breathing to baseball.
Anyway, I couldn't care less if there was a DOTA forum as long as I keep getting quality replays of REAL games of Warcraft.

I play Dota with friends for fun and i'm certainly not a ladder washout. You're logic is completely flawed. A completely different type of skill is needed in dota (as Blaze mentioned) compared to that of wc3:tft.

Just something to think about.
If you don't like DotA, that's fine. You are under no obligation to view this forum whatsoever. For that matter, I don't even play DotA anymore, so I have no reason to support it either.
However, the forum was not added to turn the site into a DotA site. The forum was added because there are literally tens of thousands of DotA players on BNet, and when you run a website, the goal is to gain members. This is an excellent way of doing so, and also allows for a broader discussion of the game without having to go to another site, many of which are so filled with flaming that the forums are pointless to even have.
It's a smart business decision for this site to have these forums and to try to attract the many players that play the game. And these forums, just like the WoW Forums, by no means suggest the site's direction is going to sway from what it always has been. These forums will have zero effect on the content of this website, with the only exception being some possible DotA articles on the front page, or MAYBE the odd DotA audio, though it would obviously have to be on a short or extremely good/unique/funny game.
The site is a Warcraft site, and that is what it always will be. But DotA is a part of Warcraft III, and given its huge following, it's only fitting to have forums for those who play it.
And lastly, in regards to the comments in this thread about there only being a couple of topics to discuss in DotA Forums, note these forums have been up for less than a full day, and already have more new threads than many of our other forums combined. No, it's probably not going to be as popular as Member Chat, but this forum is already doing as well as TFT Discussion does (and it does well), so this isn't something that's going to die off in a month like the Team Game Forums, among others.

DOTA does not need a complete different type of skill. There are situations in TFT where the game becomes similar to DOTA...when it's just AM/MK/Paladin vs DK/Lich/CL. DOTA simply takes that part out of TFT and makes it a game type.

I play a lot of 1v1 ladder, and a lot of DOTA.
Very different games. 1v1 ladder takes a lot of pure skill, lots of concentration. It is extremely stressfull, and its one of the only games in the world where I can get so angry and yell and scream.
DOTA is much more casual, laid back. The skill in DOTA is more like a strategy game like Magic. Its about coming up with skill and item combos, and timing, and positioning, whereas Ladder feels more about production, tactics, and constant refinement of your army. Because of this pacing, it ends up being a lot less stressfull of a game.
So if Im feeling hyper-competitive I play ladder. If I want to play more casually, or am interested in the strategy of item/skill/hero combos I play DOTA.

Competitive DotA is probably something most people bashing DotA have never touched. The game requires a lot of teamwork, timing and strategy as well as some knowledge on which 5 man hero comboes are best for certain situations.
It's not a 'plain fact' just because you say it is. DotA requires a completely different skillset than ladder does. It's like comparing WoW and ladder - two completely different things.
Well I played WoW for like half a year aswell, and that barely takes skill aswell. So youre right if you compare dota and wow skillwise
Thumbs up for wcr putting up a dota forum :D

Yeah nice job on the support for dota. Because I play DOTA doesnt mean im no good at ladder :disgust: I just play it because.. its fun. Play it with your mates, relax a little. Ladder takes so much skill and such a high level of concentration at higher levels. Sometimes its a bit exhausting really. This does take away from the fun of it for me so often I would rather go play dota.

why every1 speaks about skill etc. It seem u only play wc3 and u think life is about it. But its just a game. U can have faun even if u are loosing in dota or anywhere else becouse u like playing. Its just a part of warcraft world dota and it seems solo players are just jealous coz of its fast expand over battle.net . U dont have to play it but its fun. Many ppl knows wc3 coz of dota and even dont know about (or dont think about) solo game. U should know skill is not everythink.
game=fun and progamers become here at first they wanted to compete and now u speak about skill like everythink on this world meaning of life etc. PLS have a icy shower THX
good dota -player average solo - average CS

"I think DOTA is great. Not because it's a good or complex game , but simply because all the shitty players move to full time DOTA and it makes the ladder for the real game more serious and competitive."
That's not always true.
The people I IH with usually have 85%+ totals, with around 90% in their main race, with at least a tier 4 icon.
Also, dota requires a different set of skills than warcraft 3. It may take no skill to pub stomp (just as in regular WC3) but up at the higher level it takes a lot of skill.

shortround plays dota
Seaweed used to play dota
and so on and so forth.
course "tower lamers" like nc.dude also plays dota.
Heck, you can see pieces/throughhereyes, once upon a time a decent 2v2 at player, crying about dota in another thread, right now.

here..personally i love dota but i'll simplify the differences in two sentences
Melee: If you can micro an army and want to challenge yourself to players of all skill levels and innovative play, u play this
DoTA: If your lazy, and you can't micro an army but only a hero and just want to attack move or cast a few nukes on an enemy, you play this
when i don't feel like mentally challenging myself and just want a nice relaxing game, i'll play dota, though of course the real skill of warcraft is still in melee, it's just a different sort i suppose since dota is always a team game with 5 people.........now....what would it be like if it was 1 player using 5 heroes....now that'd be a challenge :p

DotA is nothing like real WC3 in terms of how it is played. DotA skill can carry over to some parts of WC3 but if you are playing DotA at a competitive level you are playing an entirely different game. Judging by the replays that have been posted here so far and most of the comments in this thread most people here have an extremely low skill level in DotA.
I am not claiming to be particularly good at wc3 or dota, neither holds my attention long enough for my skill to improve. How ever I have played various games at competitive levels through out the years and DotA is not a skilless game like a lot of you are making it out to be. I personally prefer solo ladder but I don't feel the need to defend it.
DotA is not a threat to real WC3. It's pretty clear that WC3 is not going to get to the size of CS in the west or SC in the east. It's pretty big now but it isn't going to be the main game of anything. It seems like a lot of you feel threatened by DotA. DotA is not going to kill your game but it may get bigger than your game. Does that really bother some of you that much?
Then again DotA could just be a fad. You never know. Games come and go. At any rate WC3 is not going to go away. Too many people play it.
