Ok...What the hell is DoTA all about!?

I been looking all over the net for information regarding this. Firstly what is it? Is it some kind of war3 expansion? Why is there no info on Battle.net?
I know there is a section of the forum dedicated to DoTA but it doesn't really explain too much, unless I've overlooked something.

you could try playing it...

basically, its a custom map where you control only a hero. there are 2 teams, scourge and sentinals, and it's a 5v5. 5 heroes from scourge vs 5 heroes from sentinals look to destroy the other teams' main building; tree of life for sentinals, and frozen throne for scourge. in the process many fights and battles take place, and the more heroes you kill, the more chances you have to win, since a hero kill gives you gold + experience. other then that, creeps spawn from both sides and you get experience + gold for killing them. with gold you buy items etc.. and yeah i think i covered most of it...

just give it a go.. not too hard to understand
