Obviously I'm new to Dota, I've only played 2-3 games, and I was thinking they're might be some semblence of a guide for this game since it's a lot different than traditional WC3. I've looked through the Dota forums though and I can't really find anything.
I do have some basic questions though.
1. What are some good noob/easy to play heroes that I can start off with to learn the game? I've played the Phantom Lancer and Bristleback pig dude
2. What are the best items to get and are there are any good ways to earn money to get them? Just kill his heroes and units?
3. Is the well and rejuv potions the only way to heal? I see no other means of healing aside from a slow regen potion and the fast regen healing well at the corner of the base
4. What are some of the basic jargon/slang used in Dota? I found out a "Feeder" is a person who dies a lot, feeding Exp to the enemy heroes.
5. I've always been the Sentinel side. What is the difference between the 2 sides aside from heroes and units?
6. How many heroes are there? 12 per tavern x4 x2? So that makes 96 different heroes??

5. Different heros; the ghouls/treants/etc have exactly the same hp and damage, and the bases are nearly symmetrical.
6. 77, 2 of the taverns aren't full yet.
i remember an article made by one of the staff here but i cant remember who exactly but its worth readin since u r new to the game.

1) Some good heroes for beginners (imo) :
- Doombringer
- Lich
- Venomancer
- Sniper (play defensively though, sniper is fragile)
2) Yeah you make money by killing enemy creeps and heroes. You can also kill the neutral creeps wich are scattered around the map in creep camps. They respawn every once in a while. Don't die, dying looses you a lot of money, and gives the enemy money.
Item choice depends on hero and playing style, every item in dota has it's uses. If you need advice there, you'll have to be a little more specific. I can give you some basics though:
- If you're new, grab a ring of regeneration at the start at any hero. When you get some experience you may notice you can drop it on some heroes, but don't do this early on.
- Boots are typically a good second item. Or sometimes you may want to make a "headress of regeneration" or "ring of basilius" first. Both are at the first item shop.
- Blink dagger is a must on every hero that has some sort of melee stun. Panda's clap and Centaur's stomp for example work really well if you can blink next to your enemy then cast it. Blink dagger is always a great escape tool as well.
3) There is the ring of regeneration, and the ring of health, wich allow you to stay in your lane longer.
You already mentioned the healing flask. Other then that there are some hero skills that heal, and some items. (mekansm, or any lifesteal item)
Oh and the item that allows you to eat trees is usefull now as well. It doesn't cancel when you get hit and it heals a decent amount.
4) -pooling (don't do it plz -.-): giving items to one hero, so that he quickly becomes very strong
- pushing: gathering the whole team to help your creeps advance in one lane. The goal is to take down an enemy tower and or unit building.
- farming: getting money from enemy creeps or neutral creeps
- ganking: to team up on an enemy that is farming, typically attacking him by surprise
5-6) I believe these have been answered.
I can really recommend you AvengerX guide as well, wich has already been linked to in this thread. (Turbo164 and gismodog gave that link)
