So my good friend who I am planning on ranking 2s with plays UD exceedingly better than any other races, as do I, and so I'm wondering:
What are the major downsides of double UD in 2s, if any?
What are some benefits or specific strategies that could be used due to this double UD team?
Oh.. and please don't say "If you both go fiends who's going to give 100g?" Because that's kind of the obvious disadvantage.
Thanks in advance

I played a few dual UD's, it's really fun. And if you've seen some old replays, you might've saw GoStop and Susiria use dual UD.
I can't really think of any downsides, to be honest. Panda vs Ghouls may be one, but dual UD is a pretty safe combination. I guess one weak spot would be at T2, but they'll have Fiends or Gargs to help them out at that time.
With dual UD, oftentimes it starts with a Ghoul rush. Lots and lots of Ghouls. CL/DK is usually used. The CL being able to tank, Impale to surround, and the DK healing him. If the Ghoul rush fails, you have to adapt.
Fiends are used against weak melee, air, or unarmored units. One of the UD's can actually go triple Crypt Gargs if you want some aerial power. Destros/Aboms are late-game units.
Dual UD is practically uncounterable. Aboms, Dests, Fiends, Gargs. The best thing is that they are very strong late-game, with some really strong heroes and T3 units.

That's true, I hadn't factored in the superior hero power if both UD were able to hit tri-hero and creep up in levels; one UD with high level tri-hero is scary enough as it is.
So lets say we ghoul rush. I'd basically expect the other team to be competent enough to grab AoE and towers, and I'd also expect not to win off that against anyone with some skill. Because of all the ghouls, we'd both have ample lumber, should we BOTH switch to fiend/garg whatever, or one keep ghouls/abom/whatever else for meat, while other switches to fiend/stat/destro? Or even as a third option, both go Abom/fiend/stat/garg/few frenzied ghouls?

The dual UD combination is all complementary.
Dual mass Ghouls.
Dual mass Fiends.
One masses Fiends, one masses Gargs.
One can mass Aboms while the other goes for Fiends/Destros.
Take the solo/RT strats.
Fiend/Stat/Dest or Frosts.
Ghoul/Abom.
Ghouls/Gargs.
Mass Destros.
Mass Aboms.
All these are possible strategies. Because you both are UD, there isn't a specific pairing where strategies are involved. It's not like "if you go Fiends, the other has to go Fiends too."
You have to adapt to your opponents' strategies with dual UD. Are they going Grunts/Raiders/Kodos and mass Dryads? Well, adapt to that with mass Aboms, and Fiends/Dests. What if they are dual NE, both massing Hunts. Your Ghoul rush might not work, so both of you mass Gargs.
As opposed to Orc/NE mirror, where they stick to the same basic strategy the whole game, dual UD needs to change their unit mix. In one game of dual UD that I saw...
1. Dual mass Ghouls.
2. One massed Fiends, the other went triple Crypt Gargs.
3. Eventual mass Aboms/Destros.
The Ghoul rush is indeed easy to stop, but it gives you the early game edge. AoE would be a problem, but it isn't that big of a problem. Towers just mess up your opponents' resources. With Impale, good UD players can get surrounds...and it's even easier with a million Ghouls.
So figure out which UD units counter other units best, and formulate your own unit mix based on the circumstances.

Thanks Shoozer, seems you know what you're talking about on here. I'll get back here if I find anything interesting or have further questions.

The one big advantage is that you can have up to 14 bone dragons each.

... which is probably only a very situational thing. Mass hawks, dryads, destroyers, mass tanks, bats, and I'm sure there are other things that could massacre mass wyrms.

Yeah Dual UD is fun. I do it a lot too, though I usually lose if the ghoul rush fails =/ '
I think Mass Gargs vs. Dual NE is a good idea =)

I wish I could see the face of anyone who sees 20 unexpected Frosts coming towards his base.
