What school are you at / is this undergrad?

hmm not sure. im in business administration and i'm averaging a B, I haven't done many core courses yet so i'm pretty sure i can bump that up to an A if I really work at it. I've done both introductory courses (finance and accounting) and i like both, I don't really have problems with either. I just heard finance is very competitive and if you're not like top1% of your class then you won't find a great job with it. I'm ready to pick a stream this summer and by this fall i'm going to major in something specific like finance or accounting.

Well, what's your goal 5-10 years out and what are your other options (i.e. different potential opportunities in finance)? Also, what do you enjoy more / what are your current "stats" (gpa / school / prior work experience)? Just remember that a CA is very reputable in Canada, although I head that CA's / CGA's / CMA's are going to be merged into one new designation called a CPA which might tarnish the CA a little bit (since the CA is definitely the best out of those three). I'd typically say that you should go for finance if that's your goal (because why waste your time with something you don't enjoy as much), but it really depends on what you can get in finance and whether you need the CA to lateral. A lot of my friends work at the big4 and have tried / want to make the transition so I'm pretty familiar with how that path works and I think I can give you fairly good advice.

Thinking of majoring in accounting and becoming a CA.. or should I just go directly into finance? :P

I'm currently an investment banking analyst, so I suppose that would qualify as "the field of finance". I've previously been in a financial analyst position though (at a fortune 100). Can I give you a hand with something?
