Source for the NGP price?
3DS RRP: $250
NGP RRP : $350
I believe Sony is making a retarded choice in the pricing again.
Like they did with PSP, their device is aimed at being "multimedia" instead of just video game playing. Except they forgot how much that failed with the PSP, and that your smartphone will more than do its task in anything variety related.
Just like the PSP vs DS, many parents who were getting their kids a Christmas present went for the option that costed $200+ less.
And here's why even if the NGP is technologically superior, it won't hold a candle to 3DS:
For a developer, if there are 2 consoles, however, one has 1/3 more market share than the other, then what would be the better development platform? Remember, it's a handheld, graphics is never a strong factor of why people will buy your games - but accessability and market penetration is. Hence, even though the DS had some ugly looking games, it far outstretched the PSP software library because (a) it's cheap to make a game and (b) it had a much bigger customer base. And remember, if a game looks like a piece of crap on DS, but looks good on a PSP, they are still priced at $70 each so the graphic differences between the 2 consoles made ZERO bearing on the developer's final profits (generally if a game has better graphics, it should sell more right... well it's completely reversed in this case)
As with PS3, once they reduced the pricing to near XBox360, their console sales "omg" magically close to Xbox... So I would just like to say - Price is the biggest factor of the same generation of video game consoles. If your machine costs 1/3 more than your competitors, while offering almost zero advantage to your software developers, then expect to eat mud for the next 5 years of your console's life again.

And so the fanboys' misinformation campaign begins. If you tell a lie often enough some people will start believing it.
Continuing the proud tradition of WCR where you post information with no evidence whatsoever
