How to Correctly "Zip" a file

I am well aware of how to "Unzip" files whether they be downloaded, from a disc, or whatever, but when it comes to "Zipping" or compacting files, I am rather inexperienced and confused as to the proper methods

I use winrar currently, can I use it to "Zip"? and if you, how?

Either open up win zip and do it that way or right click on file and go to compress file.

From my knowledge just rightclick on the folder you want to compress and there should be a button that says send to....more options should pop up and one option should be compressed file.. hope that helps
