this 'recovery' is needed for format i believe, or ie. you fucked up whats on your C drive and wants to make it better. i dont know about the restore discs, maybe for some drivers but you can always download those drivers online.
Just got a new computer and it came with a partition labeled "RECOVERY" and it also came with restore discs. What's the point? Is there some special reason to keep the partition or can I get rid of it?

Why did you buy a darned brand computer? Damn, these things suck more than, well, you can gather names yourself.
These restore discs hold your version of Windows, so don't lose them. If you get a virus or stuff you can use them, but now there are quite a few viruses who can survive HP/Compaq/Dell resto discs.
