I hope the competitive aspect gets a lot more attention than the first one--and continued support from the very beginning of release at that.

GW1 had a lot of competitive potential, but it really was more of a "coulda-been."

Since they mention more persistent worlds and less instance-based play, I wonder if it will be pay to play. The original was non-play to play so certain sacrifices had to be made (high/inconsistent latencies, heavily instance-based to reduce bandwidth, etc.).

It WON'T be pay-to-play, it's officially confirmed few times. And most dungeons/missions will be instanced anyway probably.
