Bnet tournaments

Now i know it varies, but how many points do u nomrally need to advance in bnet tournaments? If i remember correctly win=3 loss=-1 tie=1.
also how do ties work, i think if u get 2X they're score you get the win but im not sure.
Either way it's been pissing me off cuz in the tourny today i went 3-0-3 and the three ties were all games I would have won, except my opponent towered up & i never had enough time to finish him off
IMO player with higher score should get 2 player with lower score gets 0

5 0 or 6 - 1 on west is usually enough to get you to finals.
