If the 8800GT is out of your price range, you might want to consider the HD3870. It isn't too much slower, but a lot cheaper.
Yeah, definately go with the 8800GT. If you can find one that is...
Doesn't necessarily have to be a GTX. You get more bang for your bucks if you go with the GT imo but that's up to you.

Go for 8800 GT and you'll be able to run Crysis on fairly decent settings
sli and crossfire is pretty much a joke. the only reason anyone should be using sli or crossfire is if they can afford 2x of the newest vcard around so they can have the best "vcard" around. sli and crossfire is stupid for any other reasons because usually the 2x vcards you bought can't outperform one vcard that you can purchase with the money you spent to buy the 2 vcards, plus the newer vcard always has better stuff, like for directx/pixelshader etc etc.
concentrate on vcard then on ram b4 cpu. as long as you have a decent cpu and alot of ram and a great vcard. everything will run smoothly. get a mobo and cpu that can oc well and spend the rest of the cash on a better vcard and ram.
